THE PROJECT

At RPR, games aren’t just something we make—they’re in our DNA, especially for Preston Platt, our brilliant, games-obsessed, CTO. So when he noticed a gap in the market for high-quality mixed reality mini-games on devices like the Meta Quest 3 and Apple Vision Pro, he didn’t hesitate.

Within one week, Preston and Alex, our Sr. 3D Generalist, got together and brought the latest idea to life—Pop Goes the Weasel—a fast-paced, chaotic, and completely hilarious mixed reality game.

THE INSPIRATION

With the growing demand for XR content, especially as the Quest 3 and Vision Pro gain traction, brands are hungry for immersive experiences. So we thought, “Why not show them what we can do?”

Armed with AI tools and some serious caffeine, Preston wanted to demonstrate how fast we could knock out a high-quality game people actually wanted to play, even if that meant not sleeping. (Because let’s face it, clients often want things done yesterday!)

THE CHALLENGE

We set the bar high: the game had to work flawlessly on both Apple Vision Pro and Quest 3, and be up to par with other mixed reality games out there. The catch? He gave himself just one week to develop the entire game. Yeah, we thought he was crazy too! But with his 15 years of XR experience and specialty in headworn content, if anyone could pull it off, it was him.

To be a success, the game had to be complete with hand tracking, gaze interactions, insane levels of 3D quality and design, and, most importantly, it had to pass the Mom Test—if Preston’s mom couldn’t play it and have fun, it wasn’t good enough!

THE SOLUTION

With his new AI sidekicks (hello, ChatGPT, Leonardo AI tools, and MidJourney!), Preston engineered a game that works seamlessly on both Vision Pro and Quest 3. It’s like your living room becomes the game arena.

You’ll be dodging TNT bombs, whacking weasels, and blocking dynamite attacks with a trash can lid—all while trying not to laugh. Plus, thanks to the mixed reality effects, the Meta Quest 3 even allowed us to create a hole in your floor when the TNT explodes, blending the digital and physical worlds together.

THE RESULTS

Preston and Alex did it—Pop Goes the Weasel was live in just one week! And it wasn’t just quick; it was high-quality, incredibly fun, and passed the Mom Test with flying colors. Now available on Vision Pro and Quest 3, it’s getting great ratings, and more importantly, showing what’s possible in mixed reality mini-games.

Plus, it proves we can deliver high-quality content at lightning speed for you or your brand.
